Teaching Bible content is foundational to helping students in their walk with God. Understanding truth, however, and even doing all the right things, is not the end. Students need to do what they do with the right motivations and heart attitudes. Helping students develop Christ-like character, not merely conduct, should be a Bible teacher’s objective — “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son” (Rom. 8:29).
To reach this objective, encourage teachers to do the following:
- Pray for students to be more like Christ.
- Place the character of Christ before them, not just what He does.
- Point students to the power of God to affect change in their lives.
- Provide an example of Christ-likeness.
