Many of your teachers might feel like they aren’t creative but the reality is that all teachers have potential for being creative. The Creative Bible Teaching with Results Workbook by Ministry Tools Resource Center emphasizes that creative teaching goes beyond innovative methods and riveting visualization.
In lining up with God and His ways, creative teaching relates to the overall goals of teaching, one’s view of the teaching-learning process, classroom structure, and approach to the lesson. Creative teaching affects their roles as teachers and how they relate to students. Creativity is therefore essential for Bible teachers.
For teachers prone to hide behind the excuse that they aren’t creative:
1) Remind them that they are made in the image of God. Part of that likeness is creativity, not the part of bringing something into existence from nothing but rather the more imaginative side that invests what is already created with new form, that uses variety, and that puts purposeful design into what is done.
2) Remind them of the benefits of creativity. Teachers need to get beyond themselves and realize the effect their teaching can have on others. Creativity moves students to higher levels of learning. The article, The Benefits of Creativity in the Classroom, on the MinTools.com site uses an acrostic of the word ‘Creative’ to look at eight different benefits that will make your classroom conducive to true learning and growth. A worksheet available through the MinTools.com store looks at those benefits and challenges teachers to implement steps to make it a reality.
