In a Teacher Training Rut? – Devotionals Can Be Quite Helpful

Share:

When thinking about ways to train Bible teachers, we might not think of devotionals as a means. Remember, however, that the inspired Word of God “is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

Benefits of Using Devotionals for Bible Teachers Training

The Teacher Training Module included in the Christian Education Files resource lists five benefits of God’s Word seen in Psalm 19:7-11 that need to be applied to teachers. Because Scripture itself is useful, devotionals based on God’s Word provide a good foundation for helping teachers realize these benefits. You’ll also find the following reasons for using devotionals in the above mentioned resource.

Teachers need to be built up in their spirits, in their hearts, not just their skills. The heart steers the teacher.

For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. (Matt. 12:34).

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. (Prov. 4:23)

Teachers need to be reminded to tap into the supernatural power source, not merely use natural abilities. Only God’s power truly changes lives.

Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (Jn. 15:5)

Teachers need to focus on their own walk with God to be a good example, not only a good speaker. Our lives underscore or contradict our words and can affect how well students learn from us.

Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. (1 Cor. 11:1)
