Questions about Issues Encountered With Students When Using Crafts
How can we get students to follow instructions when making crafts?
Make sure instructions are clear and age appropriate — within their physical and mental abilities. The younger the child, the more step by step we’ll need to go rather than giving all the instructions at once. Sometimes we might have problems with students following instructions if they feel too boxed in. Guard against making students replicate exactly what we want. Give parameters so it fits the purpose but also allows some freedom or choices wherein we can let students exercise creativity.
In addition to the above question, and some general guidelines for using crafts, the Bible Teacher’s Handbook of Frequently Asked Questions gives some help on other issues like …
- How should we handle the perfectionist who gets upset if it isn’t just right?
- What do we do with students who finish far in advance of others?
The handbook also provides help in 48 other areas of teaching, with a total of 153 questions.
