To put the God of the Bible on level with other “gods” is to have an anemic God who isn’t great enough to deserve our attention and devotion. Bible teachers need a good grasp of Jehovah (or YHWH, Yahweh), the one true God, the self-existent One who created all things, the great “I AM” (Eph. 3:14-15). We find this proper name for God translated as LORD, in all capital letters, in many versions of the Bible, denoting the supreme God. This God, THE LORD, Jehovah, is the One teachers must present to students as they study Scripture.
Consequently, Jehovah has been chosen as the prayer topic for July.
As previously shared, the Praying for Bible Teachers Throughout the Year guides use the first letter of every month to provide a prayer need for Bible teachers and their students.
Example of How to Pray for Bible Teachers During the Month of July: Jehovah
But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love (Ps. 33:18)
Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. (Ps. 86:11)
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. (Ps. 111:10)
You who fear him, trust in the LORD – he is their help and shield. (Ps. 115:11)
- Pray that Bible teachers would personally grow in their knowledge and reverence our great Jehovah in their hearts.
- Pray that teachers get beyond the stories and facts of Scripture to putting students in touch with this One of whom there is none greater.
- Pray that teachers line up all they do with the character and ways of their Jehovah, God, as described in the Bible.
