A one-size fits all approach in teacher training may not effectively meet the needs of all your teachers.
That is why you should survey your teachers about their teacher training needs. Assess individual teachers to determine their:
- Topics of Greatest Need
- Greatest Deterrents in Teaching
- Preferences for Means of Teacher Training
- Time Preferences for Teacher Training
Learning the above about your teachers will help you provide teacher training that truly can help equip them to become better teachers. A survey is not the only means to learn about individual teacher needs. Here are possible ways to learn what kind of help your teachers really need:
- teacher surveys
- student surveys
- one-on-one consultation
- observation/evaluation
Sometimes it is as simple as asking. Other times you might need to use guiding questions.
