Bible teachers who desire to see their students’ lives change as a result of their teaching need to be aware of what is going to get them there.
No, there isn’t an app for that.
And, there’s no Easy Button.
But there are some components they can work on to increase the potential for seeing changed lives.
Look at the Table of Contents of the Teaching for Changed Lives Workbook and you will find these 5 elements:
1) Goals – You have probably heard the saying, “Aim at nothing and you’ll hit it every time.” Sometimes God will work in people’s lives despite us but how much better if Bible teachers aimed at that which God desires to happen in students’ lives — changed lives.
2) Teacher – Bible teachers need to be the kind of teachers who makes a difference. The kind of teacher you are will largely stem out of what you believe to be your purpose in teaching and how you believe people learn.
3) Methods – God created people to learn a certain way. It only makes sense to line up with the way He made us to learn.
4) Application – Bible teachers must take students far enough in the learning process. It’s been said that students have not truly learned until they apply the teaching to life.
5) Holy Spirit – Bible teachers who want to teach for changed lives must rely on the work of the Holy Spirit in their own lives as they prepare and present the lesson and also in their students’ lives as they receive the Word. The Holy Spirit needs to permeate each and every part of the teaching-learning process.
If you click one of the bold words above, it will take you to a page with a variety of teacher training resources for that particular topic.
As mentioned, all of these components are brought together in the Teaching for Changed Lives Workbook. The next post will provide you with ideas of how you can use the workbook. You can subscribe to receive e-mail notice of new posts.
I truly believe that believers should not do anything no matter how small it is without consulting the Lord for guidance. Pray without ceasing.
Amen!
