In a previous post we noted the benefit of Bible teachers gaining a big picture of the Word. From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture portrays a God who worked in wondrous ways throughout history to bring people into a relationship with Himself. Its message of redemption reveals the character and ways of the God of the Bible.
Bible Teachers’ Privilege of Helping Others Know God
Bible teachers have the awesome privilege and responsibility of helping their students not only learn the content of the Bible, but also and most importantly, to get to know and love the God of the Bible. It begins with teachers themselves having a good grasp of this God of redemption. When we have a greater appreciation for who He is, we then want to know Him even better and help others know Him too.
Resources to Help Gain a Grasp of the God of the Bible
The four-page teacher training document, What Bible Teachers Need to Know About God’s Word, provides a Panoramic View of God in the Bible as well as a look at the big picture of God’s Word with some implications for Bible teachers.
Teachers who have grasped how truly great and amazing the God of the Bible is, will then be able to use His Word to help others get to know Him as well. Sometimes having resources beyond our lesson plans enables us to better help others navigate the Word in ways that point to the key message and One who inspired it.
The New to Bible Reading Discipleship Tool provides a resource you can use with youth and adults to disciple them. It provides a flow of the biblical narrative showing what the different parts teach us about God. It also looks at more of the big picture of the Bible. People new to reading God’s Word will find a suggested order for reading the Bible helpful.
