General Questions about a Teaching Ministry

We could ask a number of general questions about a teaching ministry. This question gets to the core. Much of what we do in lesson preparation and during class time will revolve around how we answer this question.

Core Question for Bible Teachers

What is the most important thing in a Bible teaching ministry?

God Himself is most important. Yes, the Bible must be central. The teacher’s heart does matter. And, our teaching should result in changed lives. But, if a teaching ministry doesn’t lead to students knowing and loving the Lord more and more, we basically have no more than head knowledge or outward conformity. God not only authored the Bible but is its real focus. And, a consistent theme runs through the Word of how God wants to be in a love relationship with the people He created. We need to help students get to know the God behind the Bible stories and biblical doctrine. We need to help students get to know God in a real and intimate way, in the fullness of who He is. That reverential awe, referred to as “the fear of the Lord” (Prov. 9:10; 14:27; 16:6; 29:25), is what will motivate them to live for Him for they will see Him as worthy of their love, adoration, obedience, and service. — “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have
good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.” (Ps. 111:10)
