Disciplemaking Teachers Have Intentional Life-Changing GoalsOften when stating the Great Commission we’ll shorten it to “go and make disciples of all nations” which makes it sound like solely an outreach goal. Jesus, however, went on to explain His intent. — “baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matt. 28:19-20) The majority of space given in the Commission deals with that which happens after conversion. In essence, He’s asking that we make fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Disciplemaking Teachers Reach Life-Changing Goals by Being Intentional

While teaching is part of the discipleship process, it has a specific end in sight – that we teach them “to obey everything” Jesus commanded. This takes the teacher’s role way beyond simply being a dispenser of knowledge. We disciple to develop people into fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ by being intentional. — “He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.” (Col. 1:28)

Order the Bible Teacher’s Role for more of an explanation of how Jesus’ commission points to life-changing goals and what that means for Bible teachers in being more intentional. Along with instruction about being a disciplemaking teacher, this resource also looks at being a communicator, conduit, equipper, friend, model, motivator, and servant.
