We previously noted that Bible teachers have been given the responsibility of equipping their students (Eph. 4:11-13).
The Greek word used for equipping comes from the same word used elsewhere in the New Testament for fishermen mending their nets. In order to catch and haul in a load of fish, the nets needed to be in good condition. They needed to be inspected for any rips or holes that had to be repaired. Small tears or holes could turn into bigger ones and soon the purpose for the net would be minimized.
People’s Lives Sometimes Need to be Repaired Before They’re Able to Fulfill their Purpose
We live in a dysfunctional world that can produce a lot of pain and brokenness. We live in a world that dilutes and suppresses the Truth of God leading to a lot of confusion and uncertainty about what is true and right. As a result, many of our students come with holes in their hearts and minds, that if not repaired, will eventually get worse and render them feeling hopeless and helpless, not living out God’s purposes for them.
The Bible Teacher’s Role Download considers how to make this task of repairing an extension of one’s teaching responsibility and not something overwhelming. This resource provides more input on being an equipper as well as a communicator, conduit, disciplemaker, friend, model, motivator, and servant.
