In pulling resources together for the various teacher training topics, I was surprised at how little I could find on the role of the Holy Spirit specifically in regard to teaching God’s Word. As previously written, the Holy Spirit is essential to effective Bible teaching.
I’m not suggesting an obsession on the Holy Spirit. If that happens something is wrong because the Spirit’s role is to magnify Jesus, not Himself (Jn. 15:26; 16:14). The Spirit’s role is to remind us about what Jesus said (Jn. 14:26; 16:13-14), not impart His own teaching.
What I am talking about is . . .
walking in the Spirit so we’re not walking in the ways of the world and our sinful human nature (Gal. 5:13-17).
— We become Christ-like in all we do.
yielding ourselves to the Spirit so He can develop within us the fruit that doesn’t come natural to us (Gal. 5:22-26).
— We become Christ-like in character.
being so filled with the Spirit that it affects our attitudes toward life and one another (Eph. 5:15-21).
— We become Christ-like relationally.
Teachers need to live in the power of the Spirit themselves. When they do, students will see Jesus in them and be drawn to Him. Then they will be ready to learn how their teachers are able to live so victoriously in Christ . . . which is by the Spirit and not their own self-effort.
