Bible Verses Teachers Need to Grasp about the Holy Spirit

Bible Teaching & the Holy Spirit

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (Jn. 14:26)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Gal. 5:22-23)

My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. (1 Cor. 2:4-5)

This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. (1 Cor. 2:13-14)

Bible Teachers Therefore Need to Rely on the Work of the Holy Spirit

To be the teacher they should be, to relate to students as they should, to have the proper heart attitude in discipline and other difficult situations, and to gain understanding from God’s Word, Bible teachers need to rely on the work of the Holy Spirit in their own lives and for their students’ lives. Understanding the role of the Holy Spirit and relying on the Spirit in one’s teaching should also produce a greater confidence.

Here are a few common situations:

  • You don’t know how to respond to students’ questions. Are you looking to the Spirit to give you the right words to say?
  • You don’t feel like you can tolerate that belligerent or disrespectful student any longer. Are you asking the Spirit to make you patient and kind toward that student?
  • You don’t sense that you are getting through to your students. Are you remembering and relying on the Holy Spirit to convict and convince them?
