Bible Teaching Fueled by PrayerIf any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)

I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. (Eph. 1:16; 3:16-19; Col. 1:9-12; 1 Thess. 1:2; 2 Thess. 1:3)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Prov. 3:5-6)

These Bible Verses on Prayer are Critical to Teaching:

Though the above verses do not specifically mention Bible teachers, they are ever so critical for teachers to remember. When you grasp the significance of prayer to the whole of life, you will see how Bible teaching must be fueled by prayer as well. God is the Source. God is the Solution. God is the Strength. — Everything we need to effectively teach.

Bible teachers encounter many situations for which they can’t plan. They need wisdom for how to answer on the spot questions, how to best use teachable moments, how to handle discipline situations, etc. What’s the solution? — Pray! Ask God for wisdom.

Bible teachers engage students who come to class from various backgrounds and different places spiritually. Some will already be saved, some will be recent converts, and some will be Christians for quite some time. Regardless, they all need to “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet. 3:18). They all need a closer walk with Him. They all need to experience His transforming power. They all need the Spirit to help them understand the truth being taught and apply it to life (1 Cor. 2:12-16). What can teachers do to help students, especially when unable to be with them throughout the week? — Pray! Ask God to work in the students’ lives.

Bible teachers sometimes have to make choices in how to best present truth, especially those who develop lessons from scratch. They need to determine what will grab their students’ attention, what methods to use in presenting the content, and how to help students understand the implications and application of the lesson to their lives. And, they need to know how to follow-up the lesson to maximize impact. How is a teacher to know the best course to follow? — Pray! Ask God for understanding and direction.
