Love More, Teach Better

The Praying for Bible Teachers for Bible Teachers Throughout the Year resource encourages us to use the M in March to pray teachers gain a Mastery of Bible teaching skills. But, what’s going to motivate them to keep learning and growing in their teaching skills? As in the whole of the Christian life, love will be the greatest motivating factor. At first glance linking love for God with mastering Bible teaching skills might seem a bit odd but think about it. When we love someone we want to give them our best. When we love someone we want to represent them well to others. So, let’s pray to this end.

Pray Bible Teachers Love More So They Teach Better

Pray Bible Teachers Love More so they Teach Better

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. (Mk. 12:30)

  • Pray that teachers put all of who they are into loving and serving our Lord.
  • Pray that loving God and students always supersedes programs and methodology.
  • Pray that love for God and people motivates teachers to improve in their teaching.

The more teachers grow in their love for God, the more they will put all of who they are into their teaching. The more teachers grow in their love for God, the more they will love their students which will affect how they teach.

Pray Focus Stays on God & His Word

A previous post encouraged you to pray for Bible teachers to keep their focus on what’s most important amidst so many distractions. Here we want to suggest praying that they help students keep focused on God and His Word.

How to Pray for Focus to be on God & His Word

In February Pray that Bible Teachers Focus on What's Most Importantdevote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift … Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. (1 Tim. 4:13-16)

  • Pray that teachers constantly pull the class’ focus back on God and His Word.
  • Pray that class discussion focuses on God and His Word not mere personal opinions.
  • Pray that students can block out distractions and focus on God and His Word.

You’ll find these prayer suggestions in the Praying for Bible Teachers Throughout the Year Guide which includes a one page guide for each month. The guides aren’t dated so you can begin at any time of the year.

Pray Bible Teachers Fix Their Eyes on Jesus

Jesus not only serves as an example for Bible teachers in how to teach, but He also provides the power they need to make an eternal impact in students’ lives.

Use the J in January to remind yourself to pray for Bible Teachers to fix their eyes on Jesus.

Praying for Bible Teachers to Fix their Eyes on Jesusfixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith … (Heb. 12:2)

Below you will find a few of the suggestions for how to pray for Bible teachers this month found in the Praying for Bible Teachers Throughout the Year Guide.

  • Pray that teachers learn from Jesus as the Master Teacher.
  • Pray that teachers sense Jesus’ presence with them as they teach.
  • Ask God to help teachers grasp that they can do nothing of eternal value apart from Jesus (Jn. 15:5).

Dependence on God

Share:

Scripture is filled with verses about our need to depend on God if we are to do anything of eternal value and impact. Certainly, then, we would do well to use the D in December to remind us to pray that Bible teachers Depend on the Lord to work in and through them.

Dependence on God to Work In & Through Bible TeachersTrust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Prov. 3:5-6)

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (Jn. 15:5)

  • Pray that teachers understand their need for prayer in lesson preparation.
  • Ask God to remind teachers look to Him for wisdom when not sure what to say or do (James 1:5).
  • Pray that teachers look to the Lord in all things, always seeking His face (Ps. 105:4).

In addition to the verses written above, take some time to look up the following verse that reinforce our need to depend of God for His power, strength, and wisdom: Ephesians 3:20-21; Philippians 4:13; James 1:5; 2 Peter 1:3

The Praying for Bible Teachers Throughout the Year Guide includes the above prayer points plus more for the month of December. While this resource can be started at any time of the year since the guides aren’t dated, the upcoming new year would be a good starting point to commit to regularly praying for Bible teachers.
